These are letters to Jack, my son, and my daughter, Audrey. You have given me the gift of motherhood. This is just a little gift back. I want to share my experiences with you of your childhood from my perspective of watching you grow - of being your Mom.

First Snow of the Season

Jack,

We woke up this morning to a layer of snow on everything this morning. This dusting of white on everything is a red flag to our instincts and we are compelled to dress like arctic explorers and go out to stand in it.You weren't sure what to make of the full snow gear. You would have eagerly shed it all, but couldn't figure out how to get a grip on anything or manuveur yourself without fear of falling over in a big heap of padding.Once in the snow, though, you were thrilled with this new experience! With snow all around, we HAD to try to make a snowman. It was somewhat sticky, but not enough to make a snowman that didn't fall apart once we got past the size of a basketball.I tried to explain it to you, but that wasn't working so well because each time I would get to the word snowman, as in "Jack, it doesn't look like we're going to be able to make a snowman..." you would nod your head in agreement and say "Make snowman!"

This called for action. Time to turn this into something else that was fun and would distract you from the unsuccessful attempts at snowman building today. So we launched that basketball sized snowball and watched it smash on the ground which led to the activity for the rest of the time we were outside of assembling snowballs, launching them and watching them sink into the snow or burst on the top. After our outdoors fun was over, we went inside for the traditional hot chocolate. I found to my almost disbelief that you were unwilling to try the hot chocolate because it was new and therefore BAD!So, I enticed you by tossing in a silly straw and VOILA! Hot chocolate is now on the menu!I just wished that worked with veggies!

Love,

Mommy

Jack, you need to ask your mom to get some mini marshmallows and then you will love hot cocoa or at least playing with it. :)

Last year when the snow was like this we used a bucket to make snow buddies instead of snow men. Have fun with the snow!
