These are letters to Jack, my son, and my daughter, Audrey. You have given me the gift of motherhood. This is just a little gift back. I want to share my experiences with you of your childhood from my perspective of watching you grow - of being your Mom.

Rend My Garments….

Jack,

I never really understood this biblical phrase until recently.

Each day you change more. As you grow, you are learning the basic laws of life and they aren’t always ones you want to learn.

What-goes-up-must-come-down sort of stuff.

For example:

Diapers MUST be changed at some point
After eating, faces MUST be washed…
Teeth must be brushed
Baths happen….
Children can’t run helter skelter through the streets with no adult supervision:

You know – those picky little senseless parental rules…

When confronted by one of these little picky rules at a time when you want things to be otherwise, you are struggling with frustration and anger at these limitations. Not understanding the reasoning behind them only makes this harder for you, and me not able to explain them to you yet adds insult to injury.

When you get older, I hope you know that we can talk about the reasons for the rules that we have and I’m open to hearing your views on things, but lets never let it come to this:

Love,

Mommy

Is it wrong to find these photos hilarious?

Jack is SO expressive, and I love it. Hey, he's not timid to show how he feels!
