These are letters to Jack, my son, and my daughter, Audrey. You have given me the gift of motherhood. This is just a little gift back. I want to share my experiences with you of your childhood from my perspective of watching you grow - of being your Mom.

High School Flashback

Jack,

Last night we had GUESTS! Yes - REAL, LIVE GUESTS over!

No, I'm not talking about Calum... Yes - he was over, but that's FAMILY! That's like saying I was over or something like that.

No, no - I'm talking about a friend of mine from high school and her two adorable daughters, Lilly and Viv.

First of all, I don't think I can adequately describe how strange it is to be looking at someone you remember as a teenager - who looks exactly the same, talks the same, laughs the same, and yet has TWO sweet children. Who ARE WE now???

We are moms, of course, but it really hits you when you realize you've covered all the "catch-up" material on what everyone's been doing since high school in like 5 minutes, but haven't even scratched the surface of talking about your children while watching them play together.

It was wonderful. I wish she lived locally, because I think both Erin and I could get used to nights like that, wouldn't you say, sis?

And - in the bad manners of all parent everywhere (or maybe it's just me) - with all the photos I took last night, I didn't even get ONE of her!

Love,

Mommy

Check out last night:

Lord of the Flies.....

Also, I'm always quite amazed at how quickly our house can transform into total chaos, but I never had photographic evidence of it before, UNTIL NOW!

BEFORE:

AFTER:

also - in true "guy" fashion, Viv acknowledged Jack for a brief second with a nice pat on the head...

and he's gone. Jack's first crush!:

I'm sure he'll want to kill me for that statement one of these days when it's a little too apt...

Viv cracks me up the way she balanced herself on the handle bar of the wagon. Truly, I wouldn't have guessed that was possible! :)

Jack,
Lily and Viv loved playing with you and your cousin Calum. They can not wait to have another play date when we are in town again.
Take care,
Laura
